Lessons Learned from Buying My First Home Across the Country

Around 4 years ago (WOW), I bought my first house in the sunshine state, a decision that marked the beginning of a transformative journey in my life. The experience has taught me invaluable lessons about homeownership, real estate, and moving across the country. From navigating the mortgage process to understanding the importance of location and community, I’ve learned a lot since then.

As I embrace my writing era, I here to my insights with others contemplating a big move. Whether you’re buying your first home or relocating to a new area, there are critical factors to consider, such as budgeting for unexpected expenses and building a support network.

So here’s my take on what to know before making a big move… pssst-it’s worth it! Also, your girl went all in. No renting, just vibes and a mortgage.

1. If you feel like a potted plant…you’ve outgrown where you are. You don’t need every detail mapped out, you just need to start creating momentum. One step at a time, it will come together. Start looking.

2. Put yourself out there and get involved. I made friends, met new people, and landed collaborations by simply being myself and saying hi. Turns out, talking to people in real life still works.

3. You’ll stay connected with the people you’re meant to. Distance doesn’t end real relationships, it just filters them.

4. Move where it feels right to you. Not where everyone else thinks you should be. Life gets a lot lighter when you start trusting your own voice.

There’s also other things to consider- like needing a new AC unit shortly after moving in, dealing with an HOA, and more. It’s a huge learning experience, but I have become so much stronger as an individual from it.

Big changes are uncomfortable… but so is staying somewhere you’ve outgrown.
