THREE TIPS TO STAY CREATIVE

STRESSORS GET IN THE WAY OF OUR MINDSET AND CAN BLOCK OUR CREATIVITY. HERE ARE THREE OF MY FAVORITE TIPS TO CLEAR YOUR HEAD AND OPEN YOUR MIND.

Creativity is extremely important to life! I really like this quote- “With creative people, truly new horizons open up.” -Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau

Do you ever feel yourself clouding up? Like your mind is not free and you can not just relax or take a step back appreciate the little things. You are struggling to create new content, to write, to photograph, to explore? Whatever your creative passion may be, I highly recommend trying these three tips to free your mind and get creating. Creativity is important, creativity changes history.

1. Go play!!
Physical activity is a great way to clear your head. Even if its just ten minutes a day, you can really benefit from removing yourself from your phone and computer. My personal favorite physical activities are going to the gym and going for a walk outside. Depending on the weather, I try to do one of these every day. While you are doing your physical activity, try to separate yourself from any kind of electronic device. If you need to listen to music on your run, put your phone on airplane or do not disturb mode. Having these minutes to yourself is very important and can really assist in your creative mindset. As John Cleese once said, “The most creative people have this childlike facility to play.”

2. Listen to Music & write how you feel.
Simple enough, right? There is SO much music in this world, you need to listen! Music can be actual songs, but it can also be birds chirping outside or nature sounds in the woods. It can be the noise of people walking around a park, a child laughing, your cat purring, or anything else that brings sound to your ears! Listen to this music, then record how you are feeling. Physically use a pen and paper to describe your emotions, your daily stressors, or what is running through your head. You need this time to relax and to take a step back. I also suggest that you turn your phone on silent during this time and take a few minutes to just focus on you. You are important and so are your ideas-let them flow!

3. Talk to your friends & family.
If you live with family and friends or if you live alone, you can do this. Pick up the phone (to CALL) or have an in person conversation with someone you are close to, or someone you want to get to know. By taking some time to listen to someone else, you are separating yourself from your stressors. I know you are overwhelmed with a lot on your plate, but take a second to think about someone else and reach out to see if they need an open ear. They will appreciate your time and this conversation will only assist in building your relationships. I also find that we need to work on our social skills in society as a whole. It is becoming more and more difficult for people to talk to one another- we are so used to texting. Interpersonal communication is an important skill and can assist in brainstorming and creating new ideas!

Not sure who to talk to? I am always here too if you want to talk!

Before I end this post, I (of course) want to share some of my favorite quotes about creativity:

  • “Imagination is more important than knowledge”. – Albert Einstein
  • “Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere.” – Carl Sagan
  • “A writer gets to live yet another life every time she creates a new story.” ― Pawan Mishra
  • “Every child is an artist, the problem is staying an artist when you grow up”– Pablo Picasso
  • “The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.”– Sylvia Plath

Now, get creative!
