Looking to Get away?

Life can be crazy, and we often forget what it is like to get away; to detach from the daily routine, the endless emails, and Netflix. Thomas turned the big 24 this week, so it was adventure time! I am a big fan of planning unique adventures, so naturally, I took matters into my hands. I booked a night in the Getaway House New York for Thomas’ day. Poor cell service, no television, and no Wifi…because why not?

This mini adventure was truly a great one, and an awesome experience for us. Fortunately, we had a magical 70 degree day in February to travel up to the Catskills. I packed some fun road trip snacks and we were on our way up. What to do there? I looked up some cool places to explore. After a few hour drive, we made it to stop #1.

We started our day with a hike up to the Kaaterskill Falls. It was a beautiful, warm, sunny day for this hike. We actually chased waterfalls on our way up to the top and wow, what a sight. Of course, I made Thomas take some photos with me. I whipped out my tripod & dslr remote for some quality photos. (Will share more on my set up in another post!) The view from the top was breath-taking and it was so crazy that something so magnificent is so close to where we live! After our hike, it was time for some drinks and apps at Rip Van Winkle Brewery. After seeing signs on his way to Vermont, Thomas really wanted to make a stop on this trip. Thomas enjoyed a brew and we had some apps. It was nice to relax.

Following Rip Van Winkle, we made our way into the woods to settle into our Getaway house. I highly recommend bringing a vehicle that can do some off-roading. Thank goodness we brought Thomas’ pick up truck because my little VW bug would not have made the trek through the woods.

Our Getaway house was super cute! It had everything we needed for our night in the wilderness. The tiny kitchen space was great for some chicken parmesian to be prepared by Thomas. It included a bathroom and shower and a cozy bed with a great window for observation.

At first I was hesitant about this whole experience, what would we do? Would it be a boring birthday? It ended up being such a fun night! We played card games, ate dinner, drank, and talked for hours and hours. There was even a campfire for smore’s!

The Getaway house was an awesome experience and I highly recommend this trip. Whether you want to get away for a night or for a few nights, the Getaway house is a great destination to help you forget about your troubles and just relax in nature.

Do you need to get away?
