In my opinion, fashion is about being YOURSELF and wearing what YOU want to wear. What makes you feel confident, alive and free? Do you prefer comfort over trendy? Why not both?
Sure, there are styles and trends that are more “in” than others. If we all wore the same thing, life would be pretty boring. Fashion is a way to express yourself. You may not realize it, but the clothing you selected to put on today represents you in many ways.
Personally, I tended to stray from the norm with my style. I wore finds that I thought were cool-whether or not the kids at school thought so. I always had a bit of a different style than others. You would never catch me in leggings and a sweatshirt or UGGs and sweatpants. I searched for unique finds, old vintage pieces, and clothing from Tumblr or blogs. While some people were not fans, I also received compliments. To me, it did not really matter. As long as I felt confident, I did not care what other people thought.
Here is mini me, in my high school years:
Often I would hear, “I could never pull that off.” This really stayed with me. I never understood why people would have this mentality. You literally are capable of wearing whatever you want! It’s not that you could not “pull it off,” its more that you are nervous of the opinions of others or it might not be your style. In my opinion, this statement means that you value how others will feel about your clothing more than how you feel in it and what you want to be!
Are you interested in unique, trendy finds or do you prefer a more traditional look? Here are three important things to consider when finding your fashion:
- Comfort- How do you feel in the clothing? Mentally, emotionally, and physically? Can you dance in it? Does it portray a happy vibe or a moody vibe? Are you comfortable sharing your message?
- Trendy vs. Traditional- Does your body gravitate towards the basics? Colors, patterns, etc? Do you prefer all black everything or are you a bold/bright fashionista?
- Style- Do you prefer boho? city chic? beach vibes? preppy? I think this part is really important because it reflects your passions/interests/overall vibe.
If you are like me, it is hard to classify your style into one specific category. Pieces catch my eye and I simply need to have them! If I had to, I would describe my style as beach fashion. Overall, I love cute and comfortable clothing! Those are my go to’s.
Need some ideas where to go next?
Here are a few online stores where I “Find my Fashion”:
Zaful for Trendy, inexpensive finds
Who says unique finds can only be found at a thrift store? I recently collaborated with a company called 2Ubest! I have never ordered from them before, so I was a little skeptical. The dress arrived and it was beautiful.
Whatever your style is, OWN IT. Do not be afraid to try something new. It was intimidating in high school, college even, but now you are free to be who you choose and you can wear whatever you want to wear. Do not let the opinions of others stop you! Finding your fashion takes time, and your fashion can change as you grow. Have fun with it. Express yourself.
