After three years of basically consistent Oura ring wearing, I decided to take a week off. What happened next might surprise you…
-I still walked outside in the sunshine everyday. I don’t know how many exact steps, but I sweat and felt good afterwards.
-I used my standing desk when I felt like I was sitting for too long.
-I went to bed when I was tired and woke up without being concerned about my sleep score.
-I enjoyed my days and felt my feels – happy, sad, stressed, excited, all without a logged resilience score.
I recently had a conversation on my podcast with a female wellness founder and she mentioned how there’s been such a push to optimize our lives, our wellness, our day to day. It’s no longer just getting a walk in, or sleeping, or pushing through the day- it’s hitting 10k steps, notifications to remind you to stand up, and a whole lot of habit stacking.
This is your reminder to take a step away from being robots and remember that you are a human and your body is capable of so much more than you realize. These wearables did a great job of convincing us otherwise. While they are useful tools, it’s best to keep them that way and not dictate how we live our lives.
Do you live by a wearable fitness tracker or based off your own intuition?
