Today is just a typical Tuesday. Unfortunately, my travels were postponed due to a Nor’easter hitting the North East. I was supposed to be in Boston right now, but I might not have made it back for awhile if I tried! Today, we are expecting 1-3 inches of snow and tomorrow we are expecting 8-12 inches of snow… this is going to be crazy! I am making sure to charge all my electronics in case of a power outage. Right now, it is calm and we have a beautiful sun outside. I am hoping the weather people are wrong, but a storm might be kinda fun.
Anyways, let’s get back to the title, “There is Always a Reason to Smile.” This morning, I headed home from a solid workout at the gym. On my way home, I spotted an older lady going for a walk outside. She was in a wheelchair, and she had the brightest smile on her face. She seemed so happy to be in the sun and so grateful to just be outside.
This lady’s smile made me smile and got me thinking… there is always a reason to smile. Sure, we have a storm coming and sure, life is not certain but in this moment- the sun is shining. Birds are chirping, and wind chimes are blowing.
We spend a lot of time focusing on the negative and a simple smile can really change your mindset. For example, right now I could be dreading the nor’easter or thinking about how cold it is outside. On the contrary, I could focus on the fact that the sun is shining and wind chimes are making music outside my door. I am sitting in the same location, but my mindset is so different with each scenario.
This may come off in a strange way, but I mean it in the most respectful way. There are people, like this woman, who do not have the ability to walk on their own. Some people can not leave a hospital bed right now. Some people can not read this post right now. Here I am, able to run, laugh, and read. I have the ability to do things that many people can not. Despite having this ability, we sometimes feel selfish or self-pity for minor details in our lives. We need to look at the big picture; we need to smile about the little things.
Despite the situation or the cards life has dealt us, there is always a reason to smile. Whether its a major accomplish or simply that the sun is out that day.
Smile.
